MEASURING & COLLECTING

FEBRUARY 12 - MARCH 12

SELECT DESIGN 208 FLYNN AVENUE BURLINGTON, VT.

Organized and Curated by Michael Montanaro

BURLINGTON, VT—Select Design is proud to present a special exhibition, “Measuring & Collecting,” a major contemporary art group show, organized and curated by Michael Montanaro, of Newport, Rhode Island-based Montanaro Gallery. The show features original paintings and limited edition prints by some of today’s most progressive artistic talents in the United States.

“Measuring & Collecting” pushes the boundaries of mixed aesthetics, juxtaposing fine art, urban art, and low brow, and comparing the artworks of Jesse Reno, Randy Noborikawa, Mikey Welsh, Andrew Jacob, Justin ‘Skr!bner’ Pilotte, Clark Derbes, and Andrew Sloan with works by pop-surrealist and graffiti legend predecessors, Dave Kinsey, Doze Green, John ‘Crash’ Matos, Shepard Fairey, and Phil Frost, amongst others

Subjectively and stylistically diverse, these works are a measure of each artist’s evolution, demonstrating how common inspiration can produce remarkably distinct results. The show draws connections and parallels from ancient hieroglyphics discovered on cave walls to the graffiti found on the streets of New York. As in the works of featured artist Jesse Reno, these two art forms merge, resulting in something that is at once modern and primitive.

While some works included are on loan from private collections, the majority of the artwork included in the exhibit will be available for purchase. For new collectors, Select Design has produced affordable limited edition silkscreen prints and variations with Portland, Oregon-based Jesse Reno, as well as local Burlington artist and former Weezer bassist, Mikey Welsh.

The exhibition opens on Friday, February 12th with an Artist Reception from 5:30 to 10:00pm at Select Design. The opening is free to the public, and will be on display through March 12th, 2010! Select Design is located at 208 Flynn Avenue in Burlington, Vermont.

February 12th-March 12th, 2010.
